February Update

A quick look at what we’ve been up to this month

This February is nothing like we have experienced before. We traded in sledding and hot cocoa for a high of 80° and endless sunshine. We’ve had lots of new experiences in the past couple on months. Henry lost his first tooth and found out the tooth fairy does come to Kenya. Grace has become very brave and independent, insisting on hiking on her own instead of being carried and going down even the steepest of slides at every playground we visit. Owen loves to talk to everyone, he wants to greet every person we meet in both English and Swahili and is quick to strike up conversations.

Please pray for rain! We have had running water for 12 hours in the past 72 and it often is very dirty when it does come (see the picture below). Many have gone even longer without water and there is so much struggle- livestock are dying, crops are shriveling, and wells that have been giving water for 20 years have run dry.

My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water

Psalms 63:1

Living water that forever satisfies thirst, a well that never runs dry, a spring of water the bubbles up into eternal life- promises that Jesus made to thirsty people living in a desert. We are learning in this season of drought. It is hard to tell someone about these promises of spiritual water when they desperately need regular water. Especially coming from someone who has taken the availability of water, both regular and spiritual, for granted their entire life. It is humbling to realize that some people spend their entire lives with inadequate physical and spiritual resources, continually longing to be set free from the worry of running dry. Take a minute to thank God for revealing Himself to you, and for providing you with the actual water you need.

But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

We are so grateful for your love and support, and we love hearing from you.
