Many have been curious about what it’s like going to the doctor in Kenya, so I thought I would share my day with you. Yesterday, I had my 32 week appointment with my OB in Nairobi; we just have a few more weeks until we get to meet our baby girl! There are many wonderfulContinueContinue reading “Day Trip to Nairobi”

March 2024 Update
We send our warmest greetings from Kijabe! It is summer time here and we are enjoying beautiful weather with the occasional rain, so it’s much more pleasant than the drought we were experiencing this time last year. We have lots of good news to share and hope you enjoy reading about everything that has beenContinueContinue reading “March 2024 Update”
1 year at Kijabe Mission Hospital
This year at Kijabe has been a beautiful season of growth for our family as we adapt to the daily routines of life in Kenya. Click on the video to hear about what we have been doing in this past year.
Maasai Mara
https://youtu.be/jyzoMfM8ZpQ The Byrds came for a visit, so we drove down to the Maasai Mara. This Kenyan national reserve is continuous with the Serengeti in Tanzania, and is the largest and best wildlife reserve on the continent. We are lucky that it is only a four hour drive from Kijabe. The Maasai people are veryContinueContinue reading “Maasai Mara”

February Update
This February is nothing like we have experienced before. We traded in sledding and hot cocoa for a high of 80° and endless sunshine. We’ve had lots of new experiences in the past couple on months. Henry lost his first tooth and found out the tooth fairy does come to Kenya. Grace has become very brave and independent, insisting on hiking on her own instead of being carried and going down even the steepest of slides at every playground we visit. Owen loves to talk to everyone, he wants to greet every person we meet in both English and Swahili and is quick to strike up conversations.
4 months in Kenya!
We are quickly approaching the 4 month mark here in Kenya! We made a short video about the move and settling in, which you can view below. Overall, we had a pretty smooth introduction to Kenyan living.
1 month in
We have survived a month in Kenya! Actually, Kijabe is a very comfortable place to live, with great scenery, good internet, and a temperate climate. The transition is still ongoing, but at least at this point the children are sleeping at night and eating regular meals. We started Swahili classes a few weeks ago withContinueContinue reading “1 month in”
We’ve Arrived
Greetings from Kenya, By the Lord’s grace, we successfully made it to Kijabe! Last Wednesday we piled into the car, caravanned to the airport with our families, and overwhelmed a few airline check-in workers. Thanks so much for giving us a great send-off. We had short layovers at each airport, no flight delays, and noContinueContinue reading “We’ve Arrived”
